FabLab Manager (Senior Specialist / Managerial Level)

CENTRAL ASIAN UNIVERSITY is seeking a FabLab Manager (Senior Specialist / Managerial Level) to join the School of Architecture & Design – Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab).

The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the operational, technical, and strategic activities of the FabLab, implementing advanced 3D architectural technologies, VR/AR, and AI tools, as well as supporting academic programs through digital fabrication and innovative teaching methods.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and coordinate all FabLab operations, including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC equipment, and model-making tools.

• Lead the implementation and development of advanced technologies such as VR/AR and AI applications in architectural design, visualization, and optimization.

• Plan schedules, access policies, and usage regulations for the FabLab.

• Supervise technical staff and student assistants, assign tasks, and monitor performance.

• Support academic programs by integrating digital fabrication and emerging technologies into teaching and research projects.

• Organize and conduct workshops, hackathons, masterclasses, and short courses.

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, internal policies, and university standards.

• Prepare technical documentation, operational reports, and strategic recommendations for the Lab’s development.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Engineering, Digital Technologies, or related fields.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in 3D architectural design, digital fabrication labs (FabLab / Makerspace / Workshop), or VR/AR applications in architecture.

• Proven experience delivering large-scale architectural or technological projects.

• Experience in an academic, research, or innovation-focused environment is a strong advantage.

• Proficiency in 3D modeling, CAM and vector software, and hands-on experience with 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC equipment.

• Practical ability to apply AI tools in architectural workflows.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience leading workshops, hackathons, or masterclasses.

• Previous work in internationally oriented academic or design institutions.

• Proficiency in English (working level).

• Strong interest in innovation, emerging technologies, and architectural education development.
